Announcement of CYBSEC-EXPO, new cybersecurity fair

Mediapoint & Exhibitions, a well-known Italian publishing house and event organizer, announced the launch of CYBSEC-EXPO, a new international event focused on cybersecurity. The fair, combined with the Pipeline & Gas Expo, will take place from 29 to 31 May 2024 at Piacenza Expo in Italy. This underlines the important synergy between infrastructure resilience and cybersecurity, increasingly current issues given the escalation of cyber attacks globally.

Growing need for cybersecurity solutions

The idea for CYBSEC-EXPO was born during discussions among participants of a previous edition of the Pipeline & Gas Expo, highlighting a worrying growth in cyber attacks on critical infrastructure, such as water, energy and gas facilities. These attacks pose significant risks to security, supply chain disruption, and economic stability. International records indicate a doubling of attacks on utilities in the period 2020-2022, with around 1,000 incidents weekly.

Increase in investments in cybersecurity in Italy

According to Clusit, the Italian information security association, in the first half of 2022 alone, Italian companies recorded a 67% increase in attempted cyber attacks, with 1,141 hostile events reported. As a result, 61% of national companies have increased the budget allocated to cybersecurity, making it the priority of digital investments, also supported by the Italian government's National Recovery and Resilience Plan. The growth of the cybersecurity market in Italy is expected to increase from 3.37 billion euros in 2024 up to 5.42 billion by 2029.
