Bruno Frattasi, director general of the National Cybersecurity Agency, in an interview, talks about the constant progress of the Agency. Key topics include Pnrr implementation, 5G transition, contracts and resilience. The Agency is also considering a possible move to a new location. Through the use of Pnrr funds, the agency has achieved numerous objectives in various sectors, such as the creation of screening and certification laboratories, the activation of a central audit unit for security measures and the strengthening of structures safety. It is hoped that by 2024 these actions will be completed with support for the enhancement of the T2 security structures, the full deployment of the national cybersecurity services and the full operation of the audit unit.

The role of the National Assessment and Certification Centre

In the National Cybersecurity Agency, the National Assessment and Certification Center plays a vital role. Frattasi explains how the CVCN, operational since July 2022, has helped ensure safety and timeliness. The technological scrutiny procedure has been designed to minimize the impact on the purchasing processes, while ensuring the correct evaluation of the products. An essential balance between the security of IT supplies and the efficiency of processes has been the key to the regulation of the CVCN.

5G security measures and staff expansion

When talking about 5G and non-European suppliers, Frattasi emphasizes the importance of security tools such as the National Cyber Security Perimeter, the National Assessment and Certification Center and the Golden Power. The latter allows the government to disrupt or disrupt operations involving strategic assets if a threat to national defense and security is anticipated. With regard to the Agency's staff, Frattasi is confident that, by the end of the year, they will reach the expected 300 units, thanks to the selection of young talents specialized in laboratory technologies, hardware and software.

Addressing the threat of cyber attacks and response strategy

In addressing the issue of cyber attacks, Frattasi underlines how Italy has recently been targeted, in particular by pro-Russian hacktivist groups. The director general of the National Cybersecurity Agency also expresses concern about so-called "stealth" cyberattacks, a type of threat that can go unnoticed but can have serious consequences. Frattasi underlines the importance of an effective and timely response to these threats, ensuring that the Agency is working tirelessly to strengthen existing security measures and develop innovative strategies to combat cyber attacks.
