Google, in collaboration with the National Cybersecurity Agency (ACN), has selected two Italian projects to receive funding as part of the Impact Challenge: Tech for Social Good. The Polytechnic of Milan and the Campus Bio-Medico University will develop an application based on artificial intelligence to identify the cyber vulnerabilities of small and medium-sized businesses, providing suggestions for mitigating cyber threats. At the same time, Libraries Without Borders Italy will create an app with an AI assistant to help the elderly population detect and counter cyber attacks.

An app based on Artificial Intelligence for the security of SMEs

The Polytechnic of Milan and the Campus Bio-Medico University of Rome will collaborate to develop an application based on Artificial Intelligence in order to identify the IT vulnerabilities of small and medium-sized enterprises. The app will provide real-time feedback on identified gaps and suggest mitigation strategies to defend against digital threats. This project aims to support over 300,000 SMEs by reducing cyber attacks by 30% and increasing employee awareness of cyber threats by 20%.

AI assistant for the safety of older generations

Libraries Without Borders Italy, in collaboration with Dataninja and Seedble, will develop an assistant based on Artificial Intelligence to help older people detect and counter cyber threats. This project aims to bridge the cybersecurity gap and provide tools dedicated to older generations. Through an application, alerts about cyber threats will be provided, allowing people with limited digital skills to navigate safely online. The goal is to promote a more inclusive digital society.

An investment in innovation made in Italy

Google.org has announced the investment of 4 million euros in these two Italian cybersecurity projects. The Country Manager of Google Italy, Melissa Ferretti Peretti, underlined that the objective of this initiative is to support innovation made in Italy. Furthermore, the selected projects will be distributed in open source mode, making them freely available for the benefit of all. Google will not have any intellectual property rights on the projects, which will become an asset of the country.
