Enel has decided to focus on Turin as the site of its new research center for information security, called "Cyber Harbour". The project, unveiled on June 19 at the Lingotto, the energy giant's new operational base, envisages that the center is not only a stronghold of security but also a place of connection and growth for other companies and startups. The goal is to develop innovative technologies capable of protecting critical infrastructures and companies from cyber attacks, placing Turin at the center of strategies.

A public-private alliance for cyber security

Carlo Bozzoli, head of Enel's digital sector, underlined the ambition to create a center of excellence, a meeting and exchange point that combines a public-private and academic-corporate partnership to develop skills and awareness in the field of cyber security . The choice of Turin is not accidental: the city has been the historic heart of the company's cybersecurity activities since the distant 1980s, and hosts a team of professionals in the sector. In addition, the local Polytechnic University offers a master's degree in cyber security, an important resource for training young talent.

Cyber Harbour: a collaborative ecosystem for innovation

The Cyber Harbor project aims to involve companies, investors, startups, universities, researchers and institutions in a transversal and shared work. The goal is to make Italy a point of reference for competence, know-how and innovation. To achieve this goal, Enel is collaborating with the venture capital fund Planven and the startup Nozomi Networks, an Italian excellence in the IT security sector. Enel's Turin center aims to transform a risk into an opportunity for the country, encouraging the development of an ecosystem of companies and startups expert in the sector.

Cyber security becomes a national priority

Finally, Italy is preparing for a radical change in the management of cyber security. Starting in July, cybersecurity will be included in the new procurement code. Alessio Butti, Undersecretary to the Presidency of the Council for Innovation, during the presentation of Cyber Harbour, underlined the importance of this move, which requires companies to pay attention to hardware and software purchases. According to Butti, cyber security is a strategically key area and the government is changing its attention towards this issue.
